There’s a good reason why an extraordinary feat in track and field is often called “Beamonesque.” It is said that Bob Beamon made the greatest leap in sports history at the 1968 Summer Games.
After an impressive pre-season, this newcomer had been a favorite to bring home the gold in the long jump during the Olympics in Mexico City. Though his competition included the two men who held the world record at the time for distance jumped, Bob shocked the world when he became the first athlete to hit both the 28- and 29-ft. marks.
Bob accomplished this in one jump and became an instant legend. Nearly 40 years after he set the long jump record, no one has been able to beat his 29-ft. 2½-in. leap in any Olympic competition since.
Today, Bob puts his best foot forward when managing his chronic conditions, including diabetes and hypertension. He works with Medco diabetes specialist pharmacists to help manage his prescription medications.
